Num passado distante, dois lordes da guerra travaram uma longa guerra entre si, onde muitas pessoas inocentes morreram, causando muita destruição. para acabar com isso, um grupo de heróis antigos criam um feitiço que sela os dois lordes no limbo, fazendo com que a paz reinasse temporariamente no mundo.
entretanto, o futuro foi ainda pior, a poluição tomou conta do meio-ambiente, os governos caíram, dando lugar à mega-corporação, Ultratech, que é responsável por vender armas avançadas para outras corporações entrarem em guerra entre si.
mas não é só de armas que a Ultratech se mantém, mas também através da mídia, com o torneio Killer Instinct, um torneio brutal de luta que serve como campo de testes para as armas da Ultratech.
Nesse torneio, é prometido aos vencedores tudo o que eles quiserem, enquanto os perdedores terão um destino cruel nas mãos da corporação.

however, the future was even worse, pollution took account of the environment, governments have fallen, giving way to the mega-corporation, Ultratech, which is responsible for selling advanced weapons to the other corporations go to war with each other.
