O game se passará no século XVIII, durante a Era Dourada dos Piratas, e seguirá as memórias de Edward Kenway ( pai de Haytham Kenway e avô de Connor ), um pirata notável que acidentalmente se encontra no meio do eterno conflito entre Assassinos e Templários. Edward age inicialmente por interesse próprio, visando apenas a riqueza com seus companheiros piratas, mas aos poucos se tornará um nobre e habilidoso assassino, na luta contra os Templários.

Sinopse:
